The office interior is not complete without office furniture, and the latter must be in tune with the overall office design. The office furniture should also conform to the rules of ergonomics so as to ensure that employees can go on making use of them for extended durations without any health hazards.

An average employee spends more than thirty percent of his day in the office, and considering this, if the office furniture he or she is using is not comfortable and body friendly, then the employee is likely to have repeated and possibly grave health issues. Thus it is critical for employers to make sure that office furniture, especially office chairs, are designed to enhance employees' comfort.

It is critical to look for a few features before purchasing office chairs. You must make sure that the chosen office chairs are steady, easily movable and optimally adjustable. The arm rests of chairs must fulfil their utility well, and the height should be easily adjustable so that the occupant can adjust the chair according to his requirement. The chair should permit easy movement of hands and legs such that the worker can implement his tasks without any hurdles. The most critical aspect of an office chair is its back support. It should give sufficient comfort to the occupant and create no strain to his or her spine, and it needs to be properly padded and curved for this purpose.

Office desks come second in order of priority in office furniture. Desks must be of a standard height and must have sufficient space on top to allow employees to do both computer and writing jobs without facing any problems. Small or cluttered office desks are a real agony for the worker and his body also has to make some unnatural adjustments during work that make him prone to grave health risks at a later point of time.

Office ergonomics is incomplete without careful planning of the exact placements of office furniture. There should be ample free space between the cabins or cubicles so that staff and heavy goods both get enough space for movement, without causing disturbance to the work of seated employees.

Ergonomic office furniture not only ensures good health of the staff, but also raises their effectiveness and productivity at work. An ergonomic workplace fosters better work management and organization among employees and also makes work a relaxed and stress free experience for them.

Office design must always be such that the physical discomfort is ideally absent or at least minimised for the workers. The office interior must strive to create such working conditions in which staff can carry out their tasks in a very efficient manner without any health concerns, so that the organization reaps the benefits of a healthy and productive workforce.
