Even in movies filled with firearms, it is never a surprise to see a suitably epic sword duel between the hero and the villain.

The sword isn't the only melee weapon to talk about though. The spear in particular needs special mention; a weapon regarded by many to be superior to the sword in every way except for being easy to carry. There is an old saying: To defeat a spear user takes three times the skill it would take to defeat a similarly talented sword wielder.

It is for this reason that polearms, from lances to pikes to glaives, have almost always served as the primary weapon of armies everywhere. Add in the relative ease of producing a spear, and it is no wonder they were so popular with the armies of days past.

The last class of weapons, bludgeons, is overlooked even more often than polearms. But maces, warhammers, and flails all have their own uses, even if they aren't as graceful or pretty as the other weapons; their brutal efficiency simply cannot be ignored.

One key use of bludgeons is as a tool to defeat heavily armored foes. An enemy that a sword can barely scratch can be destroyed completely by a mace or warhammer. A skilled fighter can defeat almost any attack with a good shield in his hands, and the best can use them as a brutally effective bludgeon. Dual-wielding may be popular in movies and games, but I'll take a shield for my off hand any day in real life.

The Seattle Seahawks seem to be poised for a bounce back year, following a disappointing 2008 campaign that saw the team finish with a losing record. They've made some changes; most importantly their new head coach Jim Mora.

Much of the reason for the team's horrible 2008 season can be assigned to the fact that Matt Hasselbeck, the team's long time quarterback, was lost for much of the season due to injury. Doesn't look like he'll be able to stay healthy throughout this season either.

Flashes of that returned last week, when Hasselbeck was forced out of the Seahawks' game against the San Francisco 49ers during week 2 of the 2009 NFL season.

Matt Hasselback proved when he is healthy he is one of the most efficient QB's in the NFL -- the problem is he hasn't been able to stay healthy the last couple seasons.

In 08', Hasselback only started 7 games for the Seahawks -- when he did play he only completed 52% of his pass attempts with 5 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Hasselback is in his mid 30s -- there are not many good years left for him one would assume if he can't stay on the field.

The Seahawks looked great in an easy week 1 victory against the visiting St. Louis Rams, blanking them by a score of 28-0. Let's keep in mind that the Rams were one of the worst teams in the league last season, so this doesn't prove much.

It will be difficult for the Seahawks to contend in the NFC West with the improved of the San Francisco 49ers and the defending NFC West champs Arizona Cardinals -- even though the Cards have struggles in the beginning of the season.

If the Seahawks can stay healthy for the majority of the season they are an easy 8 win team -- which is double the wins from last season. The Seahawks have their coveted "12th man" with the home crowd which makes it difficult for opponents to play them on their own turf.

This show led to a screen test which then led to her first role in the movie A Bill of Divorcement that year. The first question we often hear is: why should I care about adding swing to my drum samples and other tracks? This question actually appears on so many forums and blogs, it's not funny anymore. It is a very serious topic if you want to be a great beat maker and music producer, so let's start at the beginning. The human ear loves musical variance. It is simply science. We pay more attention to things that we see and hear that are not normal, things that have not happened before. Imagine if your favorite artist started and finished their concerts by simply playing their latest album in the same track order, with the same exact notes and more. It wouldn't be very pleasing to your ear!

If you're tapping out drum samples, then using swing is like quantization - it will help you keep on time if you're not very accurate at the moment. Even if you are spot-on, it will apply your hits to the groove/swing template.

What exactly is the swing we're talking about, you ask? Swing, in music production, is a quantization level that can be adjusted and custom made.
