In'07 Katharina Houghton Hepburn was born in Hartford, Connecticut to a mother who was a feminist as well as suffragist and a father who was a doctor leading the way in STD prevention. Because of her parents, her along with her five siblings had enormous amounts of freedom while growing up which played an important role in the development of her acting skills later on in life. By'28, childhood was but a distant memory to her as she graduated from the Bryn Mawr College. This same year also marked her marriage to Ludlow Smith to whom attended college with her.
Of course her marriage would not last long and by'34 they were divorced, but it was the experiences that counted. During her tenure at Bryn Mawr, she participated in the performing arts and even got roles in 2 productions. Soon afterwards, she would appear in a single showing of the musical The Big Pond on Broadway which marked the beginning of her career.
In'32, Katharine got her big break while playing in the Broadway Musical The Warrior's Husband. This show led to a screen test which then led to her first role in the movie A Bill of Divorcement that year. Because of this film she was the most sought after actress in Hollywood and by'33 for her role in the movie Morning Glory (a movie you can still rent today at dvd rental - Netflex), she would receive her first Academy Award.
Of course she missed Broadway so at the end of'33 she returned to appear in the musical The Lake, but unfortunately this turned out to be a big mistake because it was not received well. She finally decided to return to Hollywood in'35, but because of the Broadway flop and her time gone, she was not able to land anything good.
In'38 her luck finally changed with her role in The Philadelphia Story. She would even purchase the rights to the film and turn it into a winning musical as well. Between Hollywood and Broadway, Katharine Hepburn spent the rest of her life entertaining. She has one so many awards for her films that she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for all her work. Her last film appearance would occur in'94 as a guest role and in 2003, Katharine Hepburn passed away at the age of 96.
