Its hard to believe that just 3 years ago I was an excited young kid who was introduced to the idea of working for a game company, testing their latest video games. Just like you, I love playing video games and can not think of a better job at that age.
I decided that because of my success in this industry I would like to help people like yourself who are also interested in video game tester jobs, and cover the steps that should be taken in order to become a tester.
I had never heard of a job as a video game tester. I presumed all the testing and checking for design faults was done by the people who actually designed the games.
If the possibility of becoming a tester yourself is one you really like the sound of, then you need to read this.
There are a few things you should know before you dive right in and start giving your time and energy seeking out video game tester jobs.
The disadvantages are as follows:
* You will be in competition with a ton of other wannabe video game testers. And some of them will have professional qualifications.
* As you first start off as a game tester you will discover the wages to be quite low. They do get better when you complete more assignments and gain more experience.
* More often than not you will work unsociable hours and for extended periods of time.
* You will not hop from one testing job to another. Quite often you will have to wait a period of time before your next project.
* Do not expect to see the sun when you are working on an assignment!
But here is the good news...
* A top game company pays you to play and test their very latest video games. If that is not incentive enough, I dont know what is?
* Its a cool job that loads of people want to do and your friends WILL be envious.
* You work and socialize with people similar to yourself, i.e. people who love playing video games.
* You will get to find out about other job positions within the game company that do not always get advertised outside of the industry. A lot of companies employ from within.
* Its not your average 9 to 5 boring job. Game companies are usually trying to get a new game released as quickly as possible and you will often find they need you to work round the clock.
I have listed just some of the pros and cons of video game tester jobs and what you may experience if you wanted to become one.
Although it has a cool image, it is not a job that will appeal to everyone or suit everyones lifestyle. But if you are not put off by some of the negative points to it, you should seriously look into it.
