The Advantages of Working Out At Home

By Buster Thomas

Working out at home can be a dangerous proposition, since you may inadvertently injure yourself, because you don't have an expert coach to watch your back. If you follow these rules, though, you can enjoy your workout at home without having hurting yourself.

The most important thing when doing any workout is to warm up your body first. 5 to 10 minutes of low intensity cardio will prepare your muscles for the workout. Try walking, bicycling, or jogging at a slow pace.

If you havent tried doing a workout before, you definitely should start small and work your way up to where you want to be. If you try to do too much, too soon, you are likely to injure your muscles. You will also minimize residual muscle pain this way.

After your muscles begin to get in better shape, work out for longer periods of time. Dont increase the difficulty of your work outs suddenly, and if you feel like you are overextending yourself, back off. You need to know what you can handle and be careful.

Take care to ensure that your exercise equipment is in good condition, and only use equipment that you know how to use safely and properly. Using equipment improperly, or using equipment that is damaged or worn, will not get you the results you are looking for, and may even cause physical injury.

Be particularly careful when you are using free weights. If you want to bench press or do squats, find a partner who can spot you. You can easily hurt yourself if you do not have a spotter helping you.

If at any time you feel pain during your workout, stop immediately. If the pain persists, see your doctor. Do not continue exercising while you are experiencing pain " if you do, it could only exacerbate the injury.

Finally, always wear proper footwear while exercising. Athletic shoes, particularly when walking or running, should be comfortable, properly fitted, and of good quality. This will decrease the chance of foot and leg pain.
