Finding The DJ Equipment You Need

By Jackie Wong

So, you think you have what it takes to be a DJ. It's all good, but if you want to be a really DJ you will need to know a bit more about the DJ equipment you will need to fill up your kit. You will also need to know how to work all of the equipment in your kit.

The first thing you need to know, before you go out to buy a ton of equipment, is that you will stand a better chance of making a career of it if you have some sort of tertiary education behind you. Now, that said, it has to be said that it is no necessary, however, a lot of companies do look for the guys with some sort of degree.

You should know that most of the popular, or should I say "good" DJ's have gone to college, and they have somehow taken part in the on campus radio station. If you want to have any chance of becoming a good radio DJ, start with campus Radio, it is good work experience.

The mixer is one of the most important parts of being a DJ. If you do not have a mixer, you cannot do any of the intricate mixing that DJ's do when they are in clubs or mixing tracks for songs. If you do not have a mixer, you are not a true DJ.

A CD player is the next piece of the puzzle. If you are doing club music you will want to look for a double CD player with some sort of scratching option on it. A DJ is not a DJ if he or she does not know how to scratch.

The next things you will need are big speakers. Now, you obviously cannot get any sound out of the CD player if you do not have speakers. You will need to know a bit about ohm, watts and voltages in order to put your whole kit together.
