With The Beatles (1963) is not among my favorite Beatles albums, in fact it's arguably their worst album. That is not to imply I don't love hearing it in it's 2009 fabulous remastered format nor is it to imply that it does not have any groovy songs on it because I do and it does.
I do think that when thinking only about the eight original songs on the album, it's arguably the least inspiring collection of original compositions the lads from liverpool ever released on an album (the underrated Beatles For Sale (1964) has a much better selection of 8 originals in my opinion) on the other hand, the six covers on this album are quite nice (superior to the covers on Beatles For Sale.)
My favorite Beatles originals to listen to on the With The Beatles Remastered CDs (stereo and mono) are the first three songs. In particular I have been loving song number two, "All I've Got To Do" in the remastered mono. It sounds fantastic.
Another original that has really been growing on me a bit is song #9, "Hold Me Tight." Paul wrote and sang this song and he's dismissed it as being a "work song". And while the song is a bit sloppy sounding, I do think it is a good time.
Among the cover songs I think "Till There Was You" is my favorite. It's an extremely cheesy sickly sweet love song but I think in some strange way it works because of that. The record's final track, "Money" is a great way to end the record. When I listen closely to the versions of this song included in remastered box sets I realize that the song rocks much harder than I ever realized.
For most of the albums I do prefer the stereo mixes(especially with the later albums which are my favorite, anyway) when it comes to the 2009 Beatles remasters but I do think that this CD sounds better in mono.
